SO IAM started his rap journey as a joke, handing out flyers for a debut album that didn’t exist during his senior year of high school. In his freshman year at ASU, he began recording raps in his dorm room as an outlet, slipping deeper into the party lifestyle. After tearing his ACL on the last day of spring break, he turned to rap more seriously, eventually dropping out to pursue music full time. Over the next few years, SO IAM became a fixture in AZ’s underground hip hop scene as a rapper and producer, releasing projects, producing for artists like Knoc-turn'al (Mathmadix), and opening for Camp Lo.
In 2007, SO IAM collaborated with Scary Kids Scaring Kids on their Punk Goes Crunk cover of “Notorious Thugs,” charting at #86 on Billboard 200. After years of struggle with drugs and alcohol, SO IAM returned to his faith in 2008, focusing on telling his story through CHH and producing for indie artists, landing a placement on MTV's Buckwild.
After a 15-year hiatus, SO IAM is back with his comeback song Last Friday, telling the story of his near misses with fate and God’s grace pulling him back from his reckless lifestyle. His music and upcoming EP are based on real-life stories of redemption, influenced by Pac Div, The Cool Kids, Eminem, and The Neptunes, combining syllable bending, lyricism, and humor over hard-hitting minimalist beats to offer hope to those seeking deeper meaning and connection that can only be found in God's grace.
